Biography

Philip E. V. Van Kerrebroeck was born in Louvain (B) in 1953. After obtaining a MD from the University of Leuven (B) in 1978, he trained in General Surgery and Urology in Belgium, the Netherlands and the USA. Registered as a urologist in 1984, he received the Masters Degree in Medical Sciences from the University of Antwerp (B) in 1992 and the PhD degree in medicine from the University of Nijmegen (Nl) in 1993. Since 1993 he is Fellow of the European Board of Urology.

Since 1996 he was Professor of Urology at the University of Maastricht and reached the emeritus status since October 2019. He was Chairman of the Department of Urology in the Maastricht University Medical Center from 1996 till 2011. Currently he works as a urologist in the Life Expert Centre (Leuven, Belgium). He has a long standing clinical interest in the treatment of neurogenic bladder dysfunction and different forms of functional problems of the lower urinary tract. His research interests are electrical stimulation in neurogenic and non-neurogenic lower urinary tract and sexual dysfunction and the development of new therapies in Neuro-Urology such as neuromodulation and experimental pharmacotherapeutic modalities for voiding dysfunction, including nocturia, and erectile problems.

Philip is Board Member of the International Continence Society and the European Association of Urology, and serves as reviewer for 25 scientific journals. He authored >300 peer reviewed articles and published 12 books in the field of Urology and Anthropology.
