Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus Infection in Pig: Current Perspective
Dear Reader,
Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) is a typically re-emerging epizootic swine virus. This virus was initially identified in Europe in the 1970s, and then spread to several major swine-producing areas of the world causing significant economic losses. About twenty years later, the PEDV incidence started becoming quiet following which it took a sporadic form in some countries with not as much of significance as before. Suddenly in 2013, PEDV emerged in the US and rapidly spread across the North American and Asian countries causing a disaster for the swine industry worldwide. Until now, 4 years have passed from the start of this latest epidemic. It is worth investigating what the current status of PEDV is worldwide. Does the incidence of PEDV maintains stability or becomes “quiet” again, or does it get worse? What could possibly be our new insights in PEDV?
In this special edition, research scientists and veterinary professionals are welcome to present their opinion on PEDV. Review, commentary, original research, short communication and clinical case reports are encouraged for submission to this special edition to help contribute towards our understanding of the global scenario of the PEDV status.
