School of Medicine
Chungnam National University
Moonhwa-dong Jungu
Daejeon, 301-747, Korea

Dr. Kyu Lim is currently full Professor (1996-Present), Department of Biochemistry, Chungnam National University School of Medicine, Korea. He graduated from Yeongnam University College of Pharmacy in 1975, received his Ph.D. from same University (Biochemistry: Enzymology) in 1987 and undertook his Postdoctoral training with Dr. Chi-Bom Chae in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, University of North Carolina School of Medicine at Chapel Hill (1988-1990; Gene regulation) and Visiting Associate Professor in the same University (1991). He also worked as Visiting Professor on Inflammation and Cancer (including Omega-3 fatty acid and Cancer etc.) with Dr. Tong Wu,Department of Pathology, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (2005-2007). Dr. Lim was Chair in his Department (1994-2005) and Director, Cancer Research Institute in Chungnam National University (2009-2011). Recently, he was a Chair in Autophagy Reserch Session of KSBMB (2013-2014).
Dr. Lim is one of the leading scientists in the field of a research on the Omega-3 fatty acids and Cancer. He has worked to identify novel molecular mechanisms of anticancer action of omega-3 fatty acids in several cancers since 2005. For example, he found that omega-3 fatty acids inhibits wnt/beta-catenin signaling and Cox-2 (Cancer Res, 2008; Mol Cancer Ther, 2009; Pancreatology, 2011 etc.), and induces cell death through autophagy (Autophagy, 2011; BioMed Res Intl, 2013 etc.). Additionall, he found that DHA degrades HPV E6/E7 oncoprotein through Ubiquitin/proteasome activation(Cell death and Disease, 2014).He has also researched on Inflammation and Cancer, Regulation of gene expression on metastasis- and angiogenesis-related proteins.
He also published several books chapter and reviews on Omega-3 Fatty acids and Cancer. In 2010, he organized Korea-EU International Forum on Omega-3 fatty acids and Cancer. Dr. Lim has been invited to speak more than 70 times from International and domestic Laboratories.

Dr. Nair is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California-San Francisco in Dr. Matthias Hebrok’s laboratory. She received her PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she worked on the role of Pancreas specific transcription factor 1a (Ptf1a) in specifying the fate of embryonic stem cells (ESCs) to the pancreatic lineage under the mentorship of Dr. Jon Odorico. Her interest has always been piqued by the applicability of ESCs to model human development & disease, and their therapeutic potential in treating diabetes. She has been involved in several path breaking publications in the field of pancreas biology, the most recent one being the generation of beta-cells from embryonic stem cells. Currently, she is focused on genome editing and modeling one of the key processes involved in diabetes, de-differentiation of beta cells, in vitro.

He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and a member of several international professional organizations, including the International Society of Digestive Surgery and International Hepato-Pancreato Biliary Association. He is also honorary treasurer of International Society of Digestive Surgery.
Dr. Ng’s main research interests are in the field of surgical management of hepatobiliary- pancreatic cancer and liver transplantation. His clinical research interest in liver cancer ranges from surgical management for early cancer to local ablation therapy for advanced disease. He was awarded the postgraduate degree of Doctor of Philosophy on the study of local ablation therapy in animal models and the degree of Master of Surgery on the study of clinical applications of radiofrequency ablation for liver cancer. In 2002, he pioneered the application of radiofrequency ablation in the management of early liver cancer and he led a single-center randomized trial of hepatic resection versus radiofrequency ablation for early hepatocellular carcinoma, which was completed in 2007 with significant clinical results. Dr. Ng is also one of the few transplant surgeons in Hong Kong, who can independently perform various types of liver transplant, including adultto- adult living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) using right liver graft with middle hepatic vein or left liver graft using middle hepatic vein, adult-to-pediatric living donor liver transplantation, deceased donor liver transplantation (DDLT) and split-liver liver transplantation. Till now, his personal series of LDLT and DDLT is over 600 and 150, respectively. In 2009, he pioneered the issue of MELD exception policy for patient with T2 hepatocellular carcinoma in Hong Kong and he was involved in the first donorexchange living donor liver transplantation in Hong Kong.
